What We Collect & Why

Email Address (Required)

We collect your email when you create an account. It’s used for login and password recovery, and it’s encrypted at rest on our servers.

Purchase Scans (User-Provided)

When you scan a gluten-free product, we record the product, its price, where it was purchased (if GPS enabled), and the comparable non-GF price. This powers your price differential tracking — a running record of how much more you pay for GF products.

Demographic Info (Optional)

We may ask for basic household and dietary info to estimate potential HSA/FSA deductions. This is completely optional. The app works fully without it, and you can add or remove it anytime.

Location (Optional)

With your permission, we use your device location to find nearby stores and provide accurate local pricing. We only access location while the app is in use — no background tracking. Deny or revoke it anytime in your device settings; the app still works with manual store selection.

Data Sharing

We share limited data with service providers who help operate the app (such as cloud hosting), under contractual data protection obligations.

In the future, we may share purchase data — aggregated or individual — with third parties, but only with your explicit consent. Details described in our Terms of Service.

The app uses Google Places API and OpenStreetMap for store location features. These services have their own privacy policies.

Security

Your email is encrypted at rest. All data transmitted between the app and our servers is encrypted via TLS.

Deleting Your Data

You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from the Delete Account button on your profile page. Deletion is completed within 30 days.

Your Rights

You can access, correct, or delete your data. You can revoke location permission through your device settings. You can remove optional demographic information at any time. For any requests, contact privacy@ungrained.com.

Children’s Privacy

unGrained is not designed for children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.

Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes, we’ll notify you within the app and update the date above. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
